2019 Conference

Our first Annual Conference at Harrogate raised the bar for experience, academic quality and networking opportunities.

Our registrations jumped impressively by over 100 delegates as we welcomed professionals to our broadest agenda ever.

Our Opening Plenary session exposed the pervasive risks and burden of living with serious allergic disease. The Ednan- LaPerouse family described the determination required to navigate the multiple challenges of bringing up a child with allergic disease. They described the isolation of having to make key decisions without support, and the desperate tragedy of their daughter Natasha’s death despite meticulous care owing to numerous systemic failings. Audience members were re-awakened by this challenging narrative, igniting a ‘connection with purpose’ to improve care and systems for those with allergic disease.

International experts shared their understanding of current science and outlined advances in practice. Professor Elizabeth Philips from Vanderbilt University described mechanisms of severe reactions to drugs and resulting implications, whilst Professor Kabesch of Regensburg University outlined how migration changes our populations’ propensity to wheeze. We learnt the final outcomes from the TRACE Study from our home- grown UK expert Dr Andy Clark, as well as how his team runs the NHS Peanut Allergy Immunotherapy Clinic at the Speakers Corner.

We heard how aeroallergen immunotherapy strategies may be optimised and the future prospects for food immunotherapy from Professor Hugh Sampson, Mount Sinai, USA.

New themes focused on Innovation in Medicine, Difficult Conversations with patients and tailoring care for adolescents and young people in our headline debate ‘the Risks of Growing Up’.

The local delicacies offered by Harrogate ‘did us proud!’ with an outstanding Welcome Reception at the stylish art-deco Sun Pavillion at the Valley Gardens and the full panoply of social hospitality on offer for delegates for enjoying company the following evening.

We are already planning our return and can’t wait to host you for another top-quality event!
