Janette Bartle works in the ENT department at Ipswich Hospital now part of ESNEFT (East Suffolk North Essex Foundation Trust). She is keen to promote best practice in allergy care particularly when it comes to the treatment of rhinitis. Education on nasal douching and correct application of topical corticosteroid nasal sprays is an essential part of her role. Having developed SOP’s for these procedures when on the BSACI nurses’ group committee, she now uses them in her patient workshops at Ipswich. These educational sessions develop the user understanding to gain concordance and compliance to continue using their topical nasal treatments which are often required long-term. Janette is also a pollen monitor collecting air samples from a trap on the roof of the Ipswich Hospital between March and September. She counts the number of pollen grains for each day and sends this data to the Met Office enabling them to compile the national UK pollen forecast.
